IB Biology
LENGTH: One year
KEY CONTACT: Ryan Brown
COURSE CONTENT:
IB Biology is an introductory course to the field of Biology, equipping students with a deep understanding of science in the natural world. The subject explores the areas of unity and diversity, and form and function through in-depth study of scientific practices associated with these areas.
IB Biology allows extension into the study of the field, providing students with opportunities to choose areas of interest and make contributions through their research to the global scientific community. The course is independently driven, focusing on student-led inquiry and intellectual discussion around ideas and concepts, with wider reading and extension work available to help students transition into a university level of scientific knowledge.
IB Biology contributes to the IBDP pathway, but can also be recognised for 20 SACE credits on completion. If you are interested in the natural sciences, and would like to go deeper into the content and concepts of this area in an independent and self-driven way, then this subject is for you.
ASSESSMENT:
Students will demonstrate their understanding through assessment in the following forms:
- Practical Work- Students will conduct a range of practical investigations into the nature of biology.
- Scientific Investigation- Students will investigate a range of areas related to biology, with opportunity to pursue contemporary issues and discoveries in the field and reflect on their implications within a global context.
