COURSE CONTENT:
In this subject, students demonstrate understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning over a range of mathematical topics, as described by the South Australian Curriculum.
These include:
- Number and Algebra (algebraic manipulation, linear inequalities and simultaneous equations, quadratic and exponential relationships, growth and decay, financial mathematics);
- Measurement and Space (surface area and volume of composite solids, Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry including angles of elevation and depression, logarithmic scales, geometric reasoning and proof, networks); and
- Statistics and Probability (boxplots, scatterplots and bivariate data, two-way tables, conditional probability, simulations).
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Student assessment will be based on a combination of skills and application tasks and folio tasks. Contextual problem solving and real-life examples will be drawn on to develop student understanding, fluency, and reasoning.
