Year 8 Drama (elective)

COURSE CONTENT:
Students identify and analyse how the elements of drama are used, combined and manipulated in different styles. They apply this knowledge in drama they make and perform and use performance skills and design elements to shape and focus theatrical effect for an audience. They evaluate how they and others from different cultures, times and places communicate meaning and intent through drama.
Students will develop their skills in expressing emotions via body, face and voice and explore their ability to tell a story using theatrical elements. Students study units that develop their dramatic skills including Improvisation and Physical Theatre. They are assessed in small-group devised performances and a whole-class Group Production of a chosen text with a performance. A requirement of the course is viewing a live theatre performance to develop critical analysis skills and students engage with external theatre professionals to develop works. Students perform for an audience during this course.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks include a range of practical skill building activities, rehearsal processes, performances and evaluation of their own theatre-making and of professional work. Students perform for an audience as part of their assessment.
