Stage 1 Physics
SACE CREDITS: 20 credits
KEY CONTACT: Craig Nielsen and Kerry Pinchbeck
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Successful Completion of Year 10 Mathematics and Year 10 Science
Due to the Mathematical nature of Physics, it is recommended that Physics students also choose Stage 1 Mathematical Methods or Mathematical Methods combined with Specialist Mathematics.
COURSE CONTENT:
The study of Physics is constructed around using qualitative and quantitative models, laws, and theories to better understand matter, forces, energy, and the interaction among them. Physics seeks to explain natural phenomena and to make predictions about them. The models, laws, and theories in physics are based on evidence obtained from observations, measurements, and active experimentation over thousands of years.
In Physics, students integrate and apply a range of understanding, inquiry, and scientific thinking skills that encourage and inspire them to contribute their own solutions to current and future problems and challenges.
1. The topics include:
2. Linear motion and forces
3. Electric circuits
4. Heat
5. Energy and momentum
6. Waves
7. Nuclear models and radioactivity
ASSESSMENT:
1. Investigations Folio (practical investigations and science as a human endeavour task)
2. Skills and Applications Tasks (topic tests and exams)
