COURSE CONTENT:
This course and does not require prior knowledge of Japanese. Students who have studied Japanese in primary school will be extended where necessary. By the end of year 7 students should be able to talk about themselves, their family and school in Japanese. They will be able to recognise and write hiragana characters and have a better understanding of Japan’s geography and culture. Students use a range of sources to learn such as textbooks, hands-on activities as well as online resources such as Duolingo, Memrise, Quizlet, Blooket, Kahoot and more.
Topics covered at a year 7 level are: Greetings, School, Family, Language Use and Culture.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks encompass a diverse range of activities, including reading comprehension, listening exercises, written assignments, and oral presentations in Japanese. Additionally, students will engage in reflective activities that compare and analyse their own cultures with those of Japanese communities, fostering a deeper intercultural awareness and appreciation.
