COURSE CONTENT:
In this subject, students demonstrate understanding, fluency, problem solving and reasoning over a range of mathematical topics, as described by the South Australian Curriculum.
These include:
- Number and Algebra (the real number system, index laws, expanding and factorising, linear and quadratic relationships, gradient and distance on the Cartesian plane, financial mathematics);
- Measurement and Space (surface area and volume, scientific notation, Pythagoras’ theorem and trigonometry, similarity and enlargement, measurement error); and
- Statistics and Probability (sampling and bias, comparing data distributions, statistical reports, relative frequencies, compound events with and without replacement).
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Student assessment will be based on a combination of skills and application tasks and folio tasks. Contextual problem solving and real-life examples will be drawn on to develop student understanding, fluency, and reasoning.
