Year 10 Sports Performance
LENGTH: One semester
KEY CONTACT: Adam Langley
COURSE CONTENT:
This course provides students with the opportunity to build on some of the basic skills developed in Year 9 specialist PE. A stronger emphasis is placed on skill development and performance improvement. This course will expand upon the theoretical concepts required for senior Physical Education. Topics include: acute and chronic responses to training, energy systems and modification of games. This topic is recommended for students going into Stage 1 and 2 Physical Education.
The practical options chosen will be based around teacher expertise and student interest.
For at least one practical activity, students will focus on one or more movement concepts or strategies to critically reflect and consider ways to improve their own and/or others performance. Students will explore and analyse evidence of physical activity to reflect on ways in which performance improvement can be achieved. Evidence includes game data, video analysis, fitness data, and/or literature research.
The second task involves exploring one or more modified games (e.g. 3v3 basketball, smash ball, fast 5 netball) that they participate in and explain how modifications to the original format of the games (e.g. basketball, volleyball, netball) have impacted inclusivity and participation of players.
Students will explore and analyse evidence of the original game and the modified game to reflect on ways in which performance improvement can be achieved. Evidence includes game and heart rate data.
Theoretical concepts covered:
- Exercise physiology – acute and chronic responses to training & lab work
- Energy systems interplay & lab work
- Modification of games
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum. Assessment types include:
- Practical performance
