LENGTH: One term
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to draw connections between the topics of chemistry, cultural empires, number representations and literary analysis.
- In English, students will investigate themes such as ambition and failure and the way texts explore the complexity of these ideas. They will consider the different circumstances where the dreams and aspirations of nations and individuals are trialled and challenged.
- In Humanities, students study the history of expansion and empire building, comparing civilisations across place and time. They will look at the historical context that determined the rise and fall of different empires, and consider the way history has shaped present values and perspectives.
- In Mathematics, students will experiment with mathematical modelling to solve problems relating to number and proportion. They will look at mathematical notation as a means of communicating complexity, and work to compare and collapse mathematical representations to in order to find logical solutions.
- In Science, students will discover the evolution of chemical understanding over tie, recognising the significance of scientific understanding at key historical points, and the way emerging understanding and consequent technologies influenced the course of history.
