Year 7 IGNITE – Life on Earth
LENGTH: One Semester
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to explore characterisation, data analysis, Earth sciences and liveability.
- In English, students explore the motivations and traits of a person, and the way this connects to the career they choose to work in. They learn that people within a small town are often connected in different ways, and they often share key values, motivations or traits.
- In HASS, students explore the liveability categories to determine what aspect of a town create a high-quality living environment for all people engaging in it. They ensure the town has sustainable and renewable properties in the way of water and electricity, to promote that environmental sustainability within their town. Additionally, they explore mapping skills and requirements to create their own new town.
- In Mathematics, students focus on data organisation and interpretation. They study different forms of data, and learn to make logical distinctions between representations of average. Students look at data related to climate around the world. They collect and compare data based on global positioning, and make decisions about how to most accurately represent data to an audience.
- In Science, students study the factors that influence global climate including the movement of water, the cycle of seasons, and the Earth’s rotation cycle. Students look at global positioning as an indicator of climate conditions and justify the likelihood of climate in a fictional setting based on scientific factors.
