Year 7 IGNITE – Then and Now
LENGTH: One term
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to incorporate measurement, classification in the biosphere, ancient civilisations and literary analysis.
- In English, students look at representations of civilisations in media and literature, and explore the concept of perspective. They recognise themes and values associated with explorations of culture, and make connections with their own identity and the significance of historical influence.
- In HASS, Students study ancient civilisations, and investigate the concept of sustainability and longevity. They consider the aspects of ancient civilisations that have survived, and those that have not, and consider cultural influences that have prevailed over time, and how they can be embraced in modern society.
- In Mathematics, students investigate how dimensions can be measured. They work with spaces and volumes, considering the arrangement of physical matter to accommodate the needs of living organisms. They work with different shapes and forms and explore the ways that they can use resources to optimise efficiency and function within a real world context.
- In Science, students explore the concept of classification, and look at how existing models of understanding have evolved over time. Students come to recognise the importance of common language and formal systems in order to discover new species, and recognise the tools and methods that have allowed generations of scientists to contribute to the growing field of scientific understanding regardless of time or place.
