Year 9 Drama
LENGTH: One semester
KEY CONTACT: Suriya Down
COURSE CONTENT:
Students further refine their expressive skills in performance, with a focus on the body on stage. Areas of study include puppetry, Commedia dell Arte, scripted and devised theatre. Students are assessed in small-group devised performances and a whole-class group production of a chosen text with a performance. A requirement of the course is viewing a live theatre performance to develop critical analysis skills and students engage with external theatre professionals to develop works. Students perform for an audience during this course.
Students analyse the elements of drama and evaluate meaning and aesthetic effect in drama they view and make. They use their experiences of drama from different cultures, places and times to evaluate drama from different viewpoints.
Students develop and sustain different roles and characters for given circumstances and intentions. They collaborate with others to plan, rehearse and perform devised and scripted drama in different forms, styles and performance spaces to engage audiences. They refine performance and expressive skills in voice and movement to convey dramatic action
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks include a range of practical skill building activities, rehearsal processes, performance and evaluation of their own theatre-making and of professional work. Students perform for an audience as part of their assessment.
