COURSE CONTENT:
By the end of year 8, students should be able to communicate about food, their hobbies and their daily routine in Japanese. They should also be able recognize and write in hiragana and katakana using the charts as a tool. Cultural aspects relating to the topics are woven throughout the course such as Obento boxes and Japanese-specific sports such as Kendo and Sumo. Opportunities to cook and/or taste Japanese food are also possible this year.
Topics covered at a year 8 level are: Hobbies, Food, Culture, Hiragana and Katakana.
Learning is enhanced by the use of applications such as Duo Lingo, Quizlet and Memrise.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks encompass a diverse range of activities, including reading comprehension, listening exercises, written assignments, and oral presentations in Japanese. Additionally, students will engage in reflective activities that compare and analyse their own cultures with those of Japanese communities, fostering a deeper intercultural awareness and appreciation.
