Making Subject Choices
During term 3 students will be selecting subjects for the following year.
It is an important time of the year when students and parents/caregivers will make decisions together about the subjects to be studied in 2026.
In preparation for selecting subjects for next year, we suggest that parents/caregivers and students discuss the following:
- Short and long term goals
- Interests and aspirations – both in and beyond school, including further study or careers
- Strengths and passions
- Subject achievements thus far (students should discuss with Care Group and subject teachers)
- Potential university/TAFE courses, including any required and assumed knowledge for university or tertiary study
- Possible Flexible Industry Programs (FIPs, formerly VET courses).
- Subjects at Aberfoyle High School to help prepare for possible future pathways
Students will be supported through the process of subject selection for 2026 via Career Development sessions in Wellbeing for Learning lessons, during daily care group sessions and through the Pathway Planning process for students entering year 11 and Year 12. Parents will also receive specific year level information about the course counselling process. Early in term 3, parents will be emailed links to video files which explain the process. The information will also be available on the school website under the Curriculum Information tab from this time.
