COURSE CONTENT:
This course does not require prior knowledge of Spanish. Students who have studied Spanish in primary school will be assessed and extended where necessary.
By the end of year 7 students will be able to communicate in written and spoken Spanish about themselves, their family and their likes and dislikes. Students will be able to understand simple listening activities and reading comprehension activities in Spanish.
They will develop an understanding of simple Spanish grammar, particularly conjugating in the present tense. They will explore the geography and cultures of Spanish speaking countries.
Students use a range of sources to learn such as textbooks, hands-on activities faculty resources, and online resources.,
Topics covered at a year 7 level are: Greetings, School, Family, Language Use and Culture.
Learning is enhanced and personalised through the use of software applications that enables students to consolidate and extend their knowledge
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks encompass a diverse range of activities, including reading comprehension, listening exercises, written assignments, and oral presentations in Spanish. Additionally, students will engage in reflective activities that compare and analyse their own cultures with those of Spanish-speaking communities, fostering a deeper intercultural awareness and appreciation.
