Year 8 Science
LENGTH: Full year
KEY CONTACT: Abby Macpherson
COURSE CONTENT:
In Year 8 Science, students explore how living things, Earth systems, matter and energy interact to shape the world around them.
Students investigate cells and body systems, examining how specialised structures work together to support life. They explore the dynamic nature of Earth through the theory of plate tectonics and investigate how rocks are formed and used. Students study different forms of energy and how energy is transferred and transformed in everyday systems. They also examine the properties of matter and distinguish between physical and chemical changes.
Throughout the year, students consider how scientific knowledge develops and changes over time. They explore how science influences society and how scientific evidence can inform decisions, policies and community viewpoints.
Students develop their scientific inquiry skills by planning and conducting safe investigations, collecting and analysing data, identifying patterns and trends, evaluating the quality of evidence, and communicating evidence-based conclusions using appropriate scientific language and representations
