Stage 1 Drama
SACE CREDITS: 10 or 20 credits
KEY CONTACT: Suriya Down
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND: Completion of Year 10 Drama at a C grade or above
COURSE CONTENT:
Stage 1 Drama may be taken for a single semester (10 credits) or for the full year (20 credits).
The majority of the course is spent devising and rehearsing the Group Production, a whole-class performance of a chosen or devised text. Students are involved in either on-stage or off-stage roles and will be required for some after school rehearsals before the public daytime and evening performances.
During the performance process students document their development and evaluate their creative choices post-performance.
Students will also study the work of off-stage practitioners (director, stage manager, publicity and designers) and apply what they have learned to the theories of distinctive theatre practitioners via a creative synthesis multimodal presentation. Students will be required to view a live theatre performance to develop their critical analysis skills and are encouraged to perform in front of others.
ASSESSMENT:
Students will be assessed against the SACE Stage 1 Drama performance standards. They will provide evidence of their learning through these assessment types each semester:
Assessment types
1. Responding to drama (multimodal or written, 800 words)
2. Performance (public performance and video evaluation)
3. Creative synthesis (multimodal presentation, 5 minutes)
