KEY CONTACT: Suriya Down
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion Year 10 Music or by audition/interview with the Senior Leader – Director of Music and The Arts.
A course for students with ensemble experience that develops group performance skills, musicianship, and aural awareness through regular rehearsals and performances.
COURSE CONTENT:
This course develops students’ skills in traditional, classical and/or jazz idioms of music. Students attend weekly instrumental lessons with an accredited teacher and maintain regular instrumental practice. Students participate in regular rehearsals and the performances of an ensemble (most often after school hours) as negotiated with the Senior Leader – Director of Music and The Arts. Technique, aural perception, musical sensitivity, critical analysis, awareness of style, structure, historical conventions and musical appreciation are developed in an ensemble performance setting.
Music offers opportunities for the development of students’ creativity, critical thinking, persistence, resilience, self-discipline, identity, connection and confidence. This is achieved through experiences that encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving, the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and understanding, and the development of aesthetic awareness.
This course may be taken in conjunction with one or two semesters of Stage 1 Music Advanced.
