Year 10 Legal Studies
LENGTH: One semester

COURSE CONTENT:
Year 10 Legal Studies focuses on the criminal justice system and how the interests of offenders and society are balanced through decisions about evidence, bail and sentencing. Students also explore contemporary criminal justice issues – such as the age of criminal responsibility or ‘adult time for adult crime’ laws.
Excursion: A visit to the Law Courts will enable students to learn how the legal system works and how everyone is treated equally under the law.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum. Assessment types include:
1. Sentencing Exercise
2. Civic Action Essay
3. Crime Scene Analysis
COMPLETION OF THIS SUBJECT LEADS TO:
Stage 1 Legal Studies or any other subject in the HASS area, including Stage 1 Modern History, Stage 1 Tourism or Stage 1 Ancient Studies.
