Year 10 Music
LENGTH: Full year
KEY CONTACT: Suriya Down
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion of Year 9 Music (including instrumental tuition) or by audition/interview with the Senior Leader – Director of Music and The Arts (approximately Grade 2 AMEB or equivalent practical and theory standard).
COURSE CONTENT:
Year 10 Music is a performance-based course whereby students continue learning their ensemble instrument from Instrumental music teachers. Students participate in Year 10 ensemble rehearsals and performances, study the theory of music, develop aural acuity, critical analysis and score reading skills, engage in music technology, composition and arranging projects, and explore musical styles and aspects of music history through their practical music-making.
Music offers opportunities for the development of students’ creativity, critical thinking, persistence, resilience, self-discipline, identity, connection, and confidence. This is achieved through experiences that encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving, the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and understanding, and the development of aesthetic awareness.
ASSESSMENT:
This course is assessed against the South Australian Curriculum concepts, capabilities and dispositions.
SUBJECT COSTS:
There is no cost for this subject, however students require an instrument. Students who do not have an instrument will need to hire one. Please note that the school has a range of instruments (other than percussion) available for hire at $50 per term.
More detailed information can be found in the APHS Music Program.
