COURSE CONTENT:
In Year 9 Humanities and Social Sciences (HASS) students study the following subjects:
History
Students learn that the human experience of conflict has immediate influence and leaves enduring legacies. They also investigate the causes and evolving nature of conflict and that they are motivated by interests and ideologies.
Students analyse and compare different primary and secondary sources in an effort to form perspectives on historical events.
Geography
Students undertake a sustainable environmental study that allows them to gain understanding and knowledge in the interrelationships between environmental factors and features such as biomes and human activity.
Students develop questions and conduct research that enable them to make planning decisions for a sustainable community.
Civics and Citizenship
Students learn about how judicial structures, processes and roles reflect who we are as a society and underpin justice through the rule of law. They investigate indigenous and colonial law and how it has influenced modern Australia.
Students undertake research to form conclusions and make judgements about a chosen Australian law.
Economics and Business
Students learn that international trade allows nations to achieve mutual benefit and fosters economic opportunity. They investigate the reasons Australia trades with other nations, and the patterns of trade between Australia and Asia.
Students analyse and compare sources in order to develop understand of why nations trade with each other.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
