Year 9 IGNITE – Peace and Conflict

COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to draw connections between the topics of creative writing, physics, algebra and history.
- In English, students consider how relationships are portrayed in texts, and the representations of conflict between individuals. They analyse how different types of conflict are formed and develop over time, and create their own texts, exploring conventional heroes and villains in comparison to unconventional relationships.
- In Humanities, students study the history of war and societal conflict. They analyse connections between historical and contemporary events and explore the nature of peace and conflict from societal and individual perspectives.
- In Mathematics, students explore how real-world problems can be represented using mathematical language. They look at relationships between different variable types and observe patterns and relationships within problems to better understand their world.
- In Science, students explore the movement of energy through different mediums, and the way that particles are connected by energy to form complex interrelationships. The consider systems of energy, and the way in which energy is conserved, transferred and transformed in relationship with different types of matter.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum. Integrated units target specific skills within the South Australian curriculum, which are assessed in alignment with core subject areas.
