Stage 1 Design, Technology and Engineering: Woodwork – Traditional Furniture

RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Year 9 Material Technologies and/or Year 10 Design & Technologies – Woodwork and/or Year 10 Design and Technologies – Metalwork
COURSE CONTENT:
Develop your skills in traditional furniture making by designing and building your own piece of framed furniture, such as a hall table, stool, or chair, using solid timber and classic woodworking joints. You’ll learn how to turn your ideas and sketches into a finished product, gaining hands-on experience with traditional tools and techniques. Assessment includes both practical projects and a design folio documenting your process.
The Contemporary Furniture and Traditional Furniture course are offered at this year level with the intention to provide students with a greater opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge in this learning area. Please note these courses are different, and there is no requirement for students to do Contemporary or Traditional”. Students can choose either or both.
ASSESSMENT:
Students’ performance will be determined according to the subject’s Performance Standards, as outlined by the SACE Board. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types.
