COURSE CONTENT:
Stage 1 Essential English is designed for a diverse range of students, including those aiming to meet the SACE literacy requirement, preparing for careers in trades or vocational pathways, or continuing their study of Essential English at Stage 2.
This subject focus on developing students’ skills in communication, comprehension, analysis, and text creation. Throughout the course, students will develop their communication skills through reading, viewing, writing, listening, and speaking. They will comprehend information, ideas, and perspectives by exploring texts from a range of contexts such as social, cultural, community, workplace, and imagined situations.
The subject develops analysis skills by supporting students to identify and analyse how the structure and language of texts vary for different contexts, purposes, and audiences. By engaging with various texts and communication forms, students will learn to express themselves clearly and appropriately. The course is designed to provide opportunities for students to communicate information, ideas, and perspectives using a range of textual conventions, and create oral, written, and multimodal texts.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessment at Stage 1 is school-based and the following assessment types enable students to demonstrate their learning.
Assessment Types

2. Creating texts
Students provide evidence of their learning through three or four assessments per semester, with at least one assessment from each assessment type. At least one assessment type will be a multimodal presentation and at least one will be in written form, per semester.
