Year 9 Outdoor Pursuits
LENGTH: One semester

COURSE CONTENT:
This course provides students with the opportunity to explore elements of outdoor adventure activities. There is a strong emphasis on developing basic outdoor skills, cooperating with others, the impact of outdoor pursuits on the environment and risk management, through participation in a range of challenging outdoor activities.
The topics include:
- Group dynamics and personal development
- Skills for living in the outdoors
- Ropes and knots, outdoor equipment, outdoor cooking and first aid
- Aquatics skill development and reflection
- Navigation, orienteering and bushwalking
- Target games
- Bocce, golf and archery
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum. Assessment types include:
- Practical performance checklist
- Research assignments
- Reports
- Reflections
