KEY CONTACT: Suriya Down
RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion of Stage 1 Music, and any one of the performance components of Stage 1 Music (10 credits) or by audition/interview with the Senior Leader – Director of Music and The Arts. This course focuses on ensemble performance, collaborative musicianship, and critical reflection, with students participating in rehearsals and performance portfolios.
COURSE CONTENT:
Stage 2 Music Performance: Ensemble consists of the following 3 strands: Understanding Music, Creating Music and Responding to Music.
Students participate in regular rehearsals and the performances of an ensemble negotiated with the Visual & Performing Arts Senior Leader. They also attend weekly instrumental lessons with an accredited teacher and maintain regular instrumental practice. Technique, aural perception, musical sensitivity, awareness of style, structure, historical conventions and musical appreciation are developed in an ensemble performance setting. The development of personal characteristics such as confidence and the ability to communicate sensitively and work cooperatively is encouraged.
Students engage critically and creatively with music, and strengthen their musical literacy, through critiquing and evaluating their own performances in an ensemble, interpreting the creative works that they perform, and expressing their musical ideas.
This course can be taken in conjunction with Stage 2 Music Performance: Solo and/or Stage 2 Music Explorations.
