COURSE CONTENT:
Ancient Studies involves the study of the literature, history, society and culture of ancient civilisations. In researching and analysing various cultures, events, texts and artefacts, students should develop an understanding and appreciation for the diversity of attitudes, beliefs, and values across the ancient world, and how the modern world has been shaped by the ancient past.
Stage 2 Ancient Studies consists primarily of the study of ancient Greece, including its culture, literature and history. Topics that will be explored include ancient Greek Religion and Mythology, Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey and the Peloponnesian Wars, a civil war which led to the downfall of Greece as the dominant empire of the Mediterranean. During the study of these topics, students will have the opportunity to explore them in great depth, while also making connections between them and other ancient civilisations and the modern world.
