Year 7 Science
LENGTH: Full Year
KEY CONTACT: Abby Macpherson
COURSE CONTENT:
In Year 7 Science, students explore how the natural world works and develop the skills scientists use to investigate questions and solve problems.
Students learn about the diversity of living things and how scientists classify organisms. They investigate ecosystems, exploring how matter and energy move through food chains and food webs, and consider how environmental changes can affect living things.
Students study Earth and Space Science by examining the relationships between the Earth, Sun and Moon, and how these interactions create patterns such as day and night, seasons, and lunar phases. They also investigate forces and how they affect the movement of objects.
In Chemistry, students use particle theory to explain the properties of solids, liquids and gases. They explore ways to separate mixtures using a range of practical techniques and develop an understanding of how materials behave.
Throughout the year, students examine how scientific knowledge develops and changes over time. They consider how science influences society and how scientific information can shape decisions, policies and community viewpoints.
A strong emphasis is placed on scientific inquiry. Students plan and carry out safe investigations, collect and analyse data, identify patterns and trends, evaluate the reliability of results, and draw evidence-based conclusions. They communicate their findings using a variety of scientific formats and develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills needed to understand the world around them.
