RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Successful completion of Year 10 Outdoor Education or Year 9 Outdoor Pursuits is recommended but not required.
COURSE CONTENT:
Stage 1 Outdoor Education is a 10 credit subject that consists of three interrelated focus areas. Together, the learning through these three focus areas enables students to develop and extend the core skills, knowledge, and understanding required to be safe, active, and informed participants in natural environments. The core skills, knowledge, and understanding are integrated in each of the focus areas and developed through experiential learning in the context of activities and journeys in natural environments.
Learning in the Environment:
Please note there are two camps:
Aquatics camp: 3 days 2 nights at Corny Point with Pt Vincent aquatics instructors focusing on skill development for surfing and environmental awareness.
Bushwalking camp: 3 days 2 nights in the Mt Remarkable national park developing navigation, leadership and minimal impact camping skills.
Learning about the environment:
Field study of the sustainable management of the metropolitan coastline. Field study of community connection and management practices in national parks and outdoor recreational environments.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students demonstrate evidence of their learning through the following assessment types.
