Year 7 IGNITE – Land of Tomorrow
LENGTH: One term
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to investigate proportional representation, states of matter, business product design and persuasion.
- In English, students consider the different ways that we persuade others, and the language features that influence the strength of an intended message. They consider audience and point of view, and develop persuasive texts designed to promote the values and mission of environmentally sustainable business start-ups.
- In HASS, students explore the role of business in society, looking at business models and how they function, and exploring the operations of business through collaborative design, planning and communication systems, and how values and mission statement motivate businesses to act.
- In Mathematics, students consider representation of proportion, converting between percentages, fractions and decimals. Students explore strategies and number operations in order to convert proportions, and make financial decisions based by drawing connections between competing information.
- In Science, students focus on the characteristics of solids, liquids and gases, and consider the ways matter can be manipulated to separate and isolate substances. Students explore the concept of waste, recognising that all matter is composed of substances and particles that have potential application. They consider sustainable solutions to waste management, and the potential for scientific understanding to promote entrepreneurial opportunities in the future.
