RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND: Completion of Year 8 Japanese.
COURSE CONTENT:
By the end of year 9 students should be able to communicate about their daily routine, festivals, housing, school, weather and restaurants in Japanese. They should also be able to read and write using all three scripts: hiragana, katakana and kanji using the relative charts as a tool. Cultural aspects relating to the topics are woven throughout the course such as how to order food in a Japanese restaurant and a what a typical school day is like in Japan. An opportunity to visit a Japanese restaurant is also possible this year.
Topics covered at a year 9 level are: Daily Routine, Invitations, Festivals, Housing, School, Weather and Japanese restaurants.
Learning is enhanced by the use of applications such as Duo Lingo, Quizlet and Memrise.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks encompass a diverse range of activities, including reading comprehension, listening exercises, written assignments, and oral presentations in Japanese. Additionally, students will engage in reflective activities that compare and analyse their own cultures with those of Japanese communities, fostering a deeper intercultural awareness and appreciation.
