LENGTH: One term
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to draw connections between the topics of statistics and probability, competitive business, biology and persuasive advertising.
- In English, students look at marketing strategies, considering the impact of advertising techniques on different target audiences. They create and market a product based on the health industry, and promote their company through a variety of media forms.
- In Humanities, students explore the world of business, with a focus on concepts such as profit and loss, and supply and demand. Students consider the socio-economic factors that can influence markets, and identify trends and consequent actions that businesses need to take in order to sustain themselves.
- In Mathematics, students experiment with statistics and probability to determine outcomes and inform logical decisions. Students use market research data to make financial investment decisions, and compare the theoretical probability of a situation to its experimental outcome. Students consider the relationship between profit and loss, and the risks associated with financial decisions.
- In Science, students investigate the human body, and focus on the form and purpose of cells and the natural processes that allow humans to survive. They consider the importance of scientific knowledge in a regulated business environment, and recognise the importance of research and development in developing and marketing a health product.
