Year 9 IGNITE – Planting Money
LENGTH: One term
KEY CONTACT: Amee Allison
COURSE CONTENT:
This integrated unit is designed to draw connections between the topics of media analysis, geography, measurement and earth sciences.
- In English, students explore the ways that bias can manipulate society’s perception of truth. The way information is communicated changes how it is received, and the truth becomes harder to determine. Students analyse a range of text sources from media to documentary, and consider how language is used to both attack and defend organisations and ideals.
- In Humanities, students consider the relationship between human industry and the natural world, exploring the environmental and social impacts of agriculture. They look at the signs of environmental shift and decay and explore the long-term consequences of maintaining the world’s rate of consumption.
- In Mathematics, students engage in measurement, considering the ways that the physical and abstract elements of space can be captured and compared. Students look at the size and scale of agricultural industries, and consider the ways that environmental impact can be quantified in order to recognise the scale of impact.
- In Science, students investigate the carbon cycle, and the way that natural systems maintain balance to promote sustainability. Students consider the natural and human factors that influence the movement of carbon, and consider the effect of an imbalanced system, and how this might affect the future of life on Earth.
