RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND: Completion of Year 9 Japanese.
COURSE CONTENT:
By the end of year 10 students should be able to communicate in Japanese about their holidays, school life, part-time jobs, shopping and homestay. They should also be able to read and write in hiragana, katakana and some kanji. Cultural aspects are woven throughout the course such as buying food at a Japanese store and what to expect when living with a Japanese family. Opportunities for cultural excursions at a Senior level include: cooking Japanese food, attending an Anime film festival, viewing a Japanese Art Gallery exhibition or a visit to the Central Market.
Topics covered at a year 10 level are: Communication, Holidays, School Life, Part-Time Jobs, Shopping and Homestay.
Learning is enhanced by the use of applications such as Duo Lingo, Quizlet and Memrise.
Students at this level may have the opportunity to participate in a Language Study Tour of Japan pending a successful application and any travel restrictions.
ASSESSMENT:
Students are assessed based on the concepts, capabilities and dispositions of the South Australian curriculum.
Assessment tasks encompass a diverse range of activities, including reading comprehension, listening exercises, written assignments, and oral presentations in Japanese. Additionally, students will engage in reflective activities that compare and analyse their own cultures with those of Japanese communities, fostering a deeper intercultural awareness and appreciation.
