Stage 1 Music Performance: Solo

RECOMMENDED BACKGROUND:
Completion of Year 10 Music or by audition/interview with the Senior Leader – Director of Music and The Arts.
Designed for student to develop their ability to perform individually, enhances technical ability, expression, and critical listening through one-on-one lessons and solo repertoire.
COURSE CONTENT:
This course develops students’ skills in traditional, classical and/or jazz idioms of music. Students attend weekly instrumental lessons with an accredited teacher and maintain regular instrumental practice. Students participate in regular rehearsals with piano accompanist as required. Students develop technique, aural perception, musical sensitivity, critical analysis, awareness of style, structure, historical conventions and musical appreciation are developed in a solo performance setting.
Music offers opportunities for the development of students’ creativity, critical thinking, persistence, resilience, self-discipline, identity, connection and confidence. This is achieved through experiences that encourage collaboration and creative problem-solving, the acquisition of skills, knowledge, and understanding, and the development of aesthetic awareness.
This course may be taken in conjunction with one or two semesters of Stage 1 Music Advanced.
ASSESSMENT:
Assessment at Stage 1 is school based. Students will be assessed against the SACE Stage 1 Music Performance Standards. Students will provide evidence of their learning through four assessments. Each assessment type will have a weighting of at least 20%. Students will undertake:
- At least two creative works (eg performance, composition)
- At least one musical literacy task (eg analysis, critique, evaluation)
COMPLETION OF THIS SUBJECT LEADS TO:
Stage 2 Music Performance: Ensemble (10 credits) and/or Stage 2 Music Performance: Solo and/or Stage 2 Music Explorations (with instrumental teacher and Senior Leader – The Director of Music and The Arts recommendation).
SUBJECT COSTS:
There is no cost for this subject, however students require an instrument. Students who do not have an instrument will need to hire one. Please note that the school has a range of instruments (other than percussion) available for hire at $50 per term.
