Stage 1 Legal Studies encourages students to consider the various ways that laws and legal issues impact the community. This occurs primarily through contemporary case studies so that students can see how the core features of our legal system – such as democracy or the rule of law – are implemented or challenged in a real-world context. The course also covers the role of the courts in resolving disputes within society, and the way the rights of victims are balanced against the accused within the criminal justice system.
