Film explores the art and industry of film making, engaging students in the exploration of film through the study of techniques and skills. The subject also focuses on the film industry, building student understanding of different roles and responsibilities in the film production process.
Students will use cameras, lighting and sound equipment to produce and edit short film texts, reflecting a growing understanding of techniques and concepts related to the industry. They will investigate roles on and around a film set, and recognise the different contributions made by roles such as the director, producer, and cinematographer. Students will watch and analyse films for their composition, use of techniques and means of communicating ideas and perspectives.
Film can be used to contribute towards a SACE pathway in year 12, or an IBDP pathway. If you enjoy watching and talking about films, are creative and expressive, and are interested in learning about the film industry, then this subject is for you.
