Wellbeing
Welcome to the wellbeing hub
Our school values of respect, care, compassion, and honesty underpin student wellbeing at Aberfoyle Park High School. We incorporate the Berry Street Trauma Informed and Restorative Practices frameworks into our teaching as learning and wellbeing are inextricably linked. Young people with good wellbeing are more engaged and successful learners. Likewise, a good education contributes to positive lifelong wellbeing outcomes.
We facilitate learning and wellbeing through:
- Building school-wide routines and body regulation by focusing on physical and emotional regulation of the stress response, de-escalation in school and classroom contexts, and mindfulness opportunities throughout the school day.
- Increasing relational capacities in staff and students through attachment and attunement principles with specific relationship strategies to engage young people.
- Employing engagement strategies that build willingness in struggling students.
- Creating a strong culture of independence for academic tasks by nurturing resilience, emotional intelligence and a growth mindset.
- Harnessing a values and character strengths approach to enable successful student self-knowledge, which leads to empowered future pathways.
- Restore relationships with students to staff and students to students when things have gone wrong by encouraging supportive and respectful behaviours. It puts the onus on individuals to be accountable for their behaviours and repair any harm caused to others due to their actions.
